Welcome to the Laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry

In the Laboratory of Biophysical Chemistry, fundamental principles from physics, chemistry and biology are applied to gain molecular and structural insights into the mechanisms and mechanics of medically relevant biological processes.

Main Research Topics in Our Group:
Experimental and theoretical study of nonlinear dynamic phenomena in chemistry and biology:

    • Modeling and simulations of physiological processes; in particular, reaction-diffusion, electrodiffusion and stochastic phenomena (ion channel gating) related to calcium signaling in cardiac myocytes
    • Advanced data processing (e.g. “capturing chromosome conformation”)
    • Experimental study of interactions between proteins and nucleic acids
    • Experimental investigation and modeling of uncatalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky oscillators

Methods: fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltametry (experimental); ODEs and PDEs solving, Monte Carlo (computational).
